bestfreevpn.net started with a simple question: which free VPN should I actually use? The web is full of "best free VPN" lists, but a lot of them rank whatever pays the most and gloss over the limits that matter once you've installed the app. We wanted something more honest.
Who we are
This site is run by the team behind Gauging Gadgets, a YouTube channel of practical tutorials for web tools and everyday tech. We've spent years reviewing software for regular people, and this site works the same way. When we say we tested a VPN, we mean we installed it, signed in, and used it. In most cases there's a video to prove it.
How we stay independent
We make money two ways, and we keep both at arm's length from our rankings:
- Advertising. We display ads on the site to help cover hosting and the time that goes into testing.
- Affiliate links. Some links to VPN providers are affiliate links. If you upgrade to a paid plan through one, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.
Neither of these decides our order. Our top free pick, Proton VPN, is recommended because of its unlimited free data and audited privacy, not because it pays us the most. We also recommend Windscribe highly even though it runs no affiliate program at all. If a product is good, it goes on the list. You can read the full affiliate disclosure any time.
What we believe about free VPNs
A good free VPN can meaningfully improve your privacy and let you reach content you otherwise couldn't. But "free" always comes with trade-offs (data caps, fewer servers, slower speeds), and a small number of shady providers monetize your data instead of charging you. Our job is to point you toward the trustworthy ones and be honest about where each falls short.
